Licensed dog travel

Bruce’s holds Type 2 Animal Transporter Authorisation, which supports the transport of dogs as part of our day care service.

Safety when travelling with dogs is a responsibility we take seriously. Our doggy bus service is part of the wider care we provide, with attention given to vehicle safety, driver checks, route planning, customer communication and the welfare of dogs during the journey.

Vehicles designed for dogs

Our doggy buses are fitted for dog travel.

They include:

  • secure crate systems;
  • climate control;
  • airflow management;
  • comfortable bedding;
  • daily vehicle checks;
  • GPS tracking;
  • and systems to help monitor driving style and performance.

The aim is to help dogs travel in a way that is secure, calm and comfortable.

Some dogs travel best on their own. Others are happier travelling with a suitable companion. Where appropriate, our teams consider what works best for the individual dog as well as the route.

Checked and trained drivers

Our drivers are an important part of the Bruce’s team.

Drivers are DBS checked and supported with training, daily checks and performance monitoring. They are responsible not only for driving safely, but also for calm handling, careful collection and drop-off, and following agreed procedures.

A safe journey is not only about the vehicle. It is also about calm handling, good judgement and clear procedures.

Travel welfare

Travel is part of your dog’s day, so we want it to be well managed from start to finish.

Our approach includes:

  • professionally fitted travel crates;
  • suitable ventilation and airflow;
  • climate control;
  • comfortable bedding;
  • route planning;
  • daily vehicle checks;
  • trained and DBS-checked drivers;
  • GPS tracking;
  • and regular route review.

Every dog is different. If your dog has particular travel needs, or if there is something you think we should know, please tell your local team so we can take it into account.

Managing journey times

Journey times can vary because of traffic, weather, roadworks, route changes and other factors outside our control.

We monitor routes and keep them under review, so journeys are planned as carefully as possible.

Where needed, we may adjust routes or timings to help improve the service. That can include:

  • changing the order of collections and drop-offs;
  • adding buses to split routes;
  • reducing capacity on a route;
  • reducing catchment areas;
  • or reviewing route plans as part of ongoing improvement.

Our aim is to keep journeys as efficient and comfortable as reasonably possible while making sure dogs travel safely.

Bus capacity

Bruce’s doggy buses are capped at 16 dogs, but we rarely operate at this maximum, and our systems are designed to prevent overbooking.

Where needed, we can reduce capacity further to support route efficiency, individual dog’s needs, comfort and safe travel.

Collection and drop-off

Many customers do not need to be at home for collection or drop-off where keyholding arrangements have been agreed.

Customers receive updates when their dog has been collected and when they have been dropped home. Where drivers hold keys, those details are managed securely and in line with agreed instructions.

If you have questions about your dog’s collection window, drop-off time, route or travel arrangements, please speak to your local Bruce’s team.

If there is a delay

Traffic and road conditions can sometimes affect journey times. Where delays happen, our drivers and teams follow procedures designed to keep dogs safe and comfortable.

We also review routes where needed and will speak with customers if there is something they should know.

Our aim is simple: to help dogs travel safely and comfortably, while giving customers confidence that every part of their dog’s day is managed with care.
