Gus’s Day Care Journey

Gus is a Cocker Spaniel dog who joined Surrey Hills Doggy Day Care when he was 4 months old.

Gus’s owners chose to bring their new pup to Bruce’s Doggy Day Care to help with his socialisation skills, keep him active and to lose a little “puppy weight”. Surrey Hills Puppy Preschool was the ideal solution, where he quickly thrived and graduated into the main doggy day care fields with the grown-up pups.

As he is a clever boy and likes to get what he wants, he did start to develop a demand barking issue. The Bruce’s team worked with his to owners to help teach him different behaviours and reward him when he stayed nice and quiet. Gus has responded well to this and has made a lot of progress.

Gus loves his time at day care and, with the help of the team and his driver, he is also enjoying his VIP doggy bus ride to and from day care with his pals.

Keeping Gus in Shape

On a routine vet visit for his booster shots, Gus’s owners were told there was just a little too much of Gus to love.

Weighing in at 22 kg, he didn’t look drastically overweight, but for his breed, it was definitely on the heavier side.

Knowing how much energy Gus burns off at doggy day care, always zooming around and making friends, his owners made the decision to add an extra day each week to his schedule. The results have been fantastic! Gus is now down to a healthy 19.5 kg. Not only has he lost weight, but he is fitter and is loving his extra playday with his four-legged pals.

Sometimes, a little more fun is just what the vet ordered!

Gus’s Favourite Enrichment Games

Dog Days of Summer

Gus absolutely loves the Dog Days of Summer enrichment programme that is held in July and August. He loves the water and being active, so events like Wet n Wild and Bruce’s Olympaws are right up his street.

A message from Gus’s pawrents…

We enrolled Gus in doggy daycare early on to help him learn good behaviour around other dogs and adapt to new environments. Two years later, he loves playing with his furry friends! We highly recommend it to anyone with a new pup considering Bruce’s.
