Puptastic Pumpkin Bites

Autumn is here, and while we’re enjoying our pumpkin spiced lattes and chai flavoured biscuits, we don’t want our furry friends to miss out.

So what better way to celebrate the season than with some homemade pumpkin-flavored treats for your dog? These snacks are not only delicious but also packed with nutrients that support digestion, skin health, and overall wellness. Plus, they’re simple enough to make, with most ingredients that you’ll likely already have at home.

Ingredients

  • 200g pumpkin puree (fresh or canned, unsweetened)
  • 2 medium eggs
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil (or sunflower/rapeseed oil)
  • 250–300g wholemeal flour (or oat flour for a gluten-sensitive pup)
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon (optional, small amounts are safe for dogs)
  • 1–2 tablespoons water (if needed, to adjust dough consistency)

Optional extras:

  • 1–2 tablespoons finely grated carrot for extra nutrients
  • Tiny bits of banana for a natural sweetness

Step-by-Step

Step 1: Preheat your oven to 175°C (fan 160°C) / 350°F. Line a baking tray with baking parchment.

Step 2: In a large bowl, whisk together: pumpkin puree, eggs and vegetable oil. Make sure the mixture is smooth and well combined.

Step 3: In a separate bowl, mix: wholemeal flour and cinnamon and gradually fold into the wet mixture. The dough should come together into a firm but workable consistency. If it feels too dry, add a little water; if too wet, sprinkle in more flour.

Step 4: Roll the dough out on a floured surface to about ½ cm thick. Cut into shapes using cookie cutters, or simply slice into small squares or rectangles.

Tip: Small bite-sized treats are perfect for training; larger pieces work well as occasional snacks.

Step 5: Place the treats on the lined tray and bake for 20 – 25 minutes, until firm and slightly golden.

Step 6: Let the treats cool completely on a wire rack. Store in an airtight container for up to 5–7 days, or freeze for up to 2 months.

Step 7: It’s treat time! Watch your pup enjoy these wholesome, pumpkin-packed treats!
