Helping Rehabilitate Rescue Dogs

At Bruces, we have the pleasure of looking after many dogs that have been rescued & rehomed. Below are two stories showing how our Surrey Hills doggy day care has helped with their rehabilitation journey.

Rescued off the streets of Dubai

Building confidence with Bruces

  • Name: Lexi
  • Age: 7 Years Old
  • Dog Breed: Mixed Breed
  • Day Care Centre: Surrey Hills

Lexi is a dog who loves being outdoors, likely because she spent time living on the streets in Dubai.

This has made her a great fit for the outdoor day care environment we provide.

She can be quite anxious around new dogs, new people, and unfamiliar situations, but once she feels safe and settled, she’s full of zoomies and ready to play.

Benefits of Day Care For Rescue Dogs Like Lexi

Lexi’s owner chose to enrol her in doggy day care to help build her confidence around other dogs and people in a safe, structured and secure environment.

Rescue dogs often arrive in their new homes carrying insecurities from the challenges of their past, and Lexi is no exception.

By giving her access to positive enrichment activities, social experiences, and a supportive space where she can learn that interactions with other dogs and unfamiliar people can be enjoyable, her owner is helping her heal.

Over time, these small, confidence-building moments have made a big difference in Lexi. She is now much calmer and happier in our fields. Her smiley pictures speak for themselves!

“Lexi loves her time at Bruce’s Surrey Hills. As soon as she hears the van arrive, she runs straight to the front door. She is so happy and relaxed when she leaves and comes back home, and has a lovely day with Bruce’s. Given that she is an anxious rescue, this gives me total peace of mind. She also has some doggy friends. Any members of the team I have interacted with have been really lovely and truly care about the dogs. Thank you, Bruce’s Surrey Hills.”

Mending Years of Mistreatment

Positive human and dog interaction

  • Name: Blue
  • Age: 4.5 Years Old
  • Dog Breed: Miniature Schnauzer
  • Day Care Centre: Surrey Hills

Blue is a cheeky Miniature Schnauzer who was rescued by his owner after being mistreated in his previous home.

Due to his past, he was a shy and timid boy who was petrified of other humans and would bark constantly out of fear.

After a lot of research by his owners, they chose to enrol Blue into Bruce’s to try and help him build his confidence and trust, as well as providing him with stimulation and company whilst they were out at work.

A True Doggy Transformation

When Blue started doggy day care, he would never allow anyone near him, so it was important we let him become comfortable in his own time.

By showing him love and patience, we have seen a great transformation in the time he has been with us. His owner has told us he now can’t wait to leave home when his bus driver arrives to collect him in the mornings, and he loves playing with the other dogs in the fields.

He even lets some of the staff pet him, which apparently was unheard of before!

We are proud to be a part of Blue’s journey to becoming the happy and confident dog he deserves to be!

“Blue has come on leaps and bounds since attending Bruce’s. I finally see a spring in his step. To hear and see photos of him playing with all the dogs and him allowing another human other than myself touch him is quite frankly remarkable and I couldn’t be happier! I can’t thank everyone at Bruce’s enough for everything, the love and care you have shown Blue and the progress he has made, I will forever be grateful.”
