Helping Cure Separation Anxiety in Dogs

Unfortunately, many dogs suffer from separation anxiety, meaning they become stressed and distressed when separated from their owners. Read how weekly visits to doggy day care have helped build confidence in Chief, Reggie and Stella.

Unleashing Chief’s Excitement

Learning to love others

Chief is a 2-year-old Cockapoo. This lovable boy was happy at home, but was very nervous around new people and showed signs of stress when left alone at home.

To help Chief, his owners enrolled him into Bruce’s Altrincham. Chief loves to be outside, and they wanted to send him somewhere where he could have the freedom to play with other dogs. After visiting Bruce’s doggy day care, they knew it would be a great fit.

From his very first day, he has grown in confidence, and it’s such a joy to see him leap out of the car and run straight to our team.

“I know he is always well cared for, and it’s clear how much he enjoys his time playing and being at Bruce’s. If he didn’t feel safe and happy, he simply wouldn’t run in with such excitement. His enthusiasm for the people and the centre is the best reflection of the love and care he receives every time he visits. As an owner, all you want is for your dog to be happy and safe — and I truly believe that he is at Bruce’s.”

Beating Anxiety With Bruce’s

Finding his confidence

Reggie is a 5-year-old Cockapoo that currently goes to Bruce’s Battlers Green. His owner reached out to us in November 2023 to see if we could help with his separation anxiety, general anxiety and build his confidence.

They visited the centre and discussed Reggie’s separation anxiety issues. His owners were keen to use our home collection & drop off bus, so we were able to suggest a plan to get Reggie confident enough to use the bus through gradual training.

Reggie has now been with us for over 2 years and has become a very sociable boy who loves playing with other dogs and spending time with the staff.

“Reggie has separation anxiety and is an anxious boy, but Bruce’s help has really helped him increase his confidence. Reggie is now confident to leave us, which he never was before, and to travel in a confined space, which he was previously very scared to do. He now waits in the window until the van comes to get him and showers Sarah, the driver, with kisses when she arrives. When he returns, he skips back in the house, gives Sarah more kisses, then a long snooze and happy dreams.”

From Shy To Shivering With Excitment

Finding her happy place

Stella is a 4-year-old Miniature Poodle. Her owner describes her as loving, warm, funny, calm, but is also very shy and anxious.

They chose to enrol her at Bruce’s Doggy Day Care in Cobham to give her socialisation opportunities with other dogs and humans.

She has been attending since she was six months old, and her confidence has gone from strength to strength. Before, she was scared of other dogs, but now she loves to approach and play with every dog she meets.

“Stella has an absolutely amazing time at Bruce’s. As soon as the doorbell goes, she starts shivering with excitement, and she comes home happy and tired. Our very shy and anxious puppy has thrived thanks to the loving and caring team at Bruce’s. From the drivers who collect her and let her snuggle into their chest, to the team who look after her during the day, and those who give her a wash down at the end. We are so grateful for what you do for her, and for us. Thank you.”
