What is dog shedding?

The majority of dogs have a soft undercoat underneath a tougher topcoat. This undercoat will shed throughout the year, particularly in the warmer months. This helps your pooch to regulate their temperature and rid themselves of excess fur.

Why de-shed your dog?

Using a fine steel comb such as a Furminator tool, you can help remove dead fur, making room for the new follicles to grow and hugely reducing the loose fur that may be left all over the house. Most importantly de-shedding will leave your dog feeling much more comfortable.

The dog shedding cycle

  • The growth phase is when the hair starts to grow from the hair follicle.
  • The regressing phase. This is when the hair has stopped growing and has reached its full length.
  • The rest phase happens when the hair becomes weak and dies.
  • The shedding phase. The final phase when the hair falls out and is replaced by new hair in the growth phase.
