Most Popular Dog Breeds

At Bruce’s, we welcome thousands of happy pups each week, each with their own unique personality, wagging tail, and energy. While we care for dogs of all sorts of shapes and sizes, some breeds are especially popular across our centres.

Here are the top 10 breeds we see most often at Bruce’s – along with a few fun facts about each!

Kennels

1 – Labrador

Labradors are one of the UK’s most beloved breeds – and for good reason.

Known for their gentle nature, Labradors thrive in our larger dog fields, bounding around with their friends and greeting everyone they meet with a wagging tail. They’re quick to join in on games and can usually be found having a splash in our paddling pools.

Fun fact: Labradors have webbed paws, making them natural-born swimmers.

Kennels

2 – Cockapoo

Cockapoos, a mixture of a Cocker Spaniel and a Poodle, are endlessly popular thanks to their playful spirit and affectionate nature.

At Bruce’s, they’re often spotted zooming across their fields, before enjoying a cuddle or two with the team. Their sociable personalities mean they settle happily into every group.

Fun fact: Cockapoos are one of the UK’s first ever ‘designer dogs,’ dating back to the 1960s.

Kennels

3 – Cocker Spaniel

Cocker Spaniels bring enthusiasm to everything they do.

Whether it’s chasing a ball, exploring every last hectare of our fields, or racing around with new friends. They love the vast space of Bruce’s and rarely run out of energy (making them one of the liveliest dogs in our care!)

Fun fact: Their name comes from their history as hunting dogs for woodcock birds.

Kennels

4 – Cavapoo

The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and Poodle mix.

This mix is adored for its affectionate and easy-going nature. Cavapoos love a snuggle in our heated cabins before racing back out for playtime. They tend to get along with everyone and often win hearts with their gentle charm.

Fun fact: Cavapoos are hypoallergenic, making them a popular choice for allergy sufferers.

Kennels

5 – Golden Retriever

Golden Retrievers are true social butterflies.

They thrive in the busy, friendly environment at Bruce’s. With their patient and loyal temperaments, they’re often seen calmly trotting around the fields with their buddies, enjoying both playtime and a good cuddle.

Fun fact: Golden Retrievers are one of the most popular service dog breeds in the world.

6 – Miniature Schnauzer

Miniature Schnauzers are instantly recognisable with their signature beards and confident stance.

At Bruce’s, they bring plenty of character and are always curious to join in on activities. Despite their small size, they have a bold personality that makes them a firm favourite among the pack.

Fun fact: Miniature Schnauzers are the most popular of the three Schnauzer breeds.

Kennels

7 – Labradoodle

Combining the cleverness of a Poodle with the affectionate nature of a Labrador.

Labradoodles are bright, fun-loving dogs. They thrive on both mental and physical stimulation, so they love the enrichment activities Bruce’s offers as much as a good chase in the fields.

Fun fact: Labradoodles were originally bred in Australia as hypoallergenic guide dogs.

Kennels

8 – Dachshund

Dachshunds may be small, but their adventurous spirit is mighty.

They have brilliant noses for sniffing and love our scent-based enrichment games, though they’re equally content curled up with the team after playtime. Their cheeky character makes them a joy to have at Bruce’s.

Fun fact: Dachshunds were originally bred in Germany to hunt badgers (“dachs” means badger in German, “hund” means dog).

Kennels

9 – Beagle

Beagles are born explorers with an incredible sense of smell.

At Bruce’s, they make full use of our fields, following our strategically laid out scents of salmon oil, sprats, and other tasty trails, and engaging enthusiastically . Their playful, sociable and trusting nature means they quickly become a firm feature of the pack.

Fun fact: A Beagle’s nose has around 220 million scent receptors – compared to about 5 million in humans!

Kennels

10 – French Bulldog

French Bulldogs might be compact, but their personalities are larger than life.

They love being the centre of attention and bring plenty of fun to our play groups. At Bruce’s, you’ll often see them enjoying gentle games, relaxing in the sun, or trotting happily alongside their friends.

Fun fact: Despite their name, French Bulldogs actually originated in England.
